There are a couple ways that an adult can become a paid instructor in the Cadet Program.
-
Cadet Instructor Cadre (CIC)
-
Civilian Instructor (CI)

What is a Cadet Instructor Cadre?
The Cadet Instructor Cadre (CIC) are members of the Canadian Forces Reserve in the Cadet Organization and Training Services (COATS). The primary duty of the CIC is the supervision, training and administration of the Cadet Program. It will require a minimum of 4-6 hrs a week and at least 1 weekend per month.
As an officer you will have the opportunity to advance in rank through courses and training offered at the Regional Cadet Instructor Schools.

What is a Civilian Instructor?
There are 3 separate types of Civilian Instructors (CI) that are paid members of the Cadet Program and each require different levels of commitment.
-
Generalist: Are given overall responsibility of an activity or a group of cadets.
-
Specialist: Have specific knowledge or abilities not normally found in the Cadet Program. Example: rock climbing instructors.
-
Contingency: Strictly for supervision when CIC's or General CI's are not available.

How do I join?
Come in and speak with the Commanding Officer to see if there are any available positions. Once a position is available, the Administration Officer will forward your name and e-mail address to the recruitment center. They will forward you the necessary paperwork to begin to the process. For sample forms of what is required (click here).

Want to give to the Cadet Program, but are unable to commit as much time as is needed to be a CIC or CI?
There are couple ways that an adult can volunteer for the Cadet Program.
-
True Volunteer
-
Sponsoring Committee

What is a True Volunteer?
A True Volunteer (TV) has been successfully screened and can assist the officers with administration, organization and training in the Cadet Program. It can be as simple as instructing individual lessons or assisting the Supply Officer and Admin Officer with upkeep. No minimum amount of time is required to be a TV, just the willingness to help.

What is the Sponsoring Committee?
The Sponsoring Committee (In conjunction with the Army Cadet League of Canada) is a non-profit group that is made up of parents/guardians of our local cadets and community members who want to give by volunteering their time. They help support the Cadet Units day to day operations as well as fundraising for extra activities that wouldn't normally be available to them (Example: Marksmanship or Band Program)
We have several opportunities to help the local Cadet Unit through fundraising
-
Host the annual craft and trade show
-
Sell raffle tickets
-
Bake tarts and other good for sale
-
Help set up and take down for legion events
-
Running canteen during parade nights
Although the efforts of the Committee seem large, many volunteers share it. We strive to make most fundraisers into fun events for parents and Cadets alike.
Come out and see what you’re missing!
